The dictionary defines clinical as being very efficient with clinicality the quality of being clinical - that was the difference between Peterborough United and Stevenage according to Steve Evans.

Posh only registered four shots on target from their six in total but they netted three times to beat Boro 3-1.

In contrast, the visitors to London Road had 11 shots in total, but only three of them tested Jed Steer with their only goal coming five minutes from time, Nick Freeman the scorer.

"I said pre-match that the clinicality of Posh separates them from a lot of teams in this league and I think we've seen it," admitted Evans.

"The best team lost, in general play we were the better team, but we didn’t have the clinicality they had.

"It's always a problem not scoring a goal, isn't it? Goals come in spells and in scenarios.

"When we're at 3-0, we all accept the game’s dead and buried a little bit.

"But then we make it 3-1 and we have a wonderful chance to make it 3-2 with still four or five minutes of added time.

"We didn't take the chance, we didn’t give ourselves the opportunity.

"If you've not watched the game on television, you’ll look at 3-1 and think that's comfortable win for Posh.

"Ask their manager. He might think the same but he’s not deluded. He’s a gifted manager and a genius at this level.

"He'll know what's happened. He'll know that their clinicality, which is a wonderful thing to have, won them the game.

"We have other riches. We have good players, good men, good people, and we'll fight again."

Evans also felt there was a pivotal moment in the first half when TV replays showed a handball by Josh Knight as he prevented Jamie Reid for connecting with a header.

However, he felt that tactically they were excellent and bar not finding the net, were totally dominant, especially in the first half.

"The balance of the game changes [in the first half]," he said. "We don't get a penalty, they get one and I'm not disputing that, theirs is a penalty.

"But in the 31st minute there's a clear and obvious handball in their box when he punches it off the head of our player as he is going to head it into an empty net.

"I’ve had the opportunity to watch Posh a couple of times and tactically we got it right, absolutely spot on.

"They didn’t have a clue. I almost knew the team and the shape when I left here when they played Northampton last week.

"You ask Fergie about that Northampton game and then ask him about this game.

"I think he'll say one could have been 12-1 and one, they're fortunate to get three points.

"We've lost but we still have the play-offs, we're still there and we're going to try and still be there on Saturday night [after Orient]."
