Nick Freeman has been named Stevenage's player of the month for February - and it might eventually make manager Steve Evans like him.

The Letchworth man has had a stellar month and has been winning hearts and minds all season following his summer move from Wycombe Wanderers.

But the Boro boss, admittedly with tongue in cheek, revealed he wasn't always a player that delighted him.

Evans said: "Nick is a lad that when I brought him to the football club, a lot of people raised an eyebrow.

"I didn't raise an eyebrow because every time I played against Wycombe Wanderers, I didn't like the kid and I didn't like him because he was very good and I and I used to scare a lot of money.

"Actually when it came that I wanted to talk to him in the summer, his agent asked me three times if it really was Nick Freeman I was calling about him. because he didn't think I liked him.

"And I didn't because he was always impactful against me.

"But he's been giving absolutely everything and we've got lots back."
