The first teams at Blueharts Hockey Club were both up against it in the latest round of matches as they faced off against league leaders.
The ladies found Cambridge University too hot to handle as the students ran out 7-2 winners, maintaining their undefeated season and moving within a win of the East League Premier Division title.
Emily Fair and Jay Livermore got the goals for Blueharts with Anna Page producing a captain’s performance in midfield.
The men were also facing an unbeaten side in Chelmsford but came away disappointed despite a 2-2 draw.
They had taken a 2-0 lead with Graham Burr and Tom Russell striking early on but the visitors, who have already been crowned champions, hit back either side of half-time to leave Blueharts with just a point and the satisfaction of a 10th game unbeaten.
There were plenty of victories elsewhere in the club.
The ladies' second team were comfortable 3-1 winners over Harpenden, thanks to goals from Kate Sherwood, Carly Madders and Isla Watts, while the thirds beat Saffron Walden 4-1 to stay second in Division Three South West.
Izzy Rutter, Kiki Arellano and Rachel Campbell all scored in the first half with Campbell getting her second after the break.
Ella Lock’s two goals spurred the sevenths to a 3-1 success over Potters Bar with Francesca Woolley adding the other.
Both of the club's fifth teams were in prolific form in front of the net.
Sophie Burston was on target twice, with Niamh Krishman and Danielle Flood scoring one each as the ladies also beat Saffron Walden 4-1.
The men though went two better, and had six different scorers, in their 6-3 win over Welwyn Garden City.
Ben and Ashley Hammond, Henry Burbridge, Joel Davey and Rory Williams were the players on target.
The thirds beat Rickmansworth 3-1 with goals from Toby MacCormack (two) and Harry Macdonald while two goals from Edwin Robinson and one from Simon Little helped the sixths to a comfortable 3-0 win over Saffron Walden.
Stevenage Hockey Club could also boast some good wins too.
The ladies' first team beat Bishop's Stortford 1-0 to stay third in Division Two while their male counterparts beat Hertford 3-2 to all but secure another season at the same level.
The ladies' fifths picked up a massive 1-0 win over second-placed Rickmansworth despite playing with just 10.
Charlotte Hessey got the only goal and there was some great defending from the entire team as well as sparkling goalkeeping from Katie Lambton.
There was also a fine performance from Michael Hamid as his clean sheet earned the men's fourths a 0-0 draw at Hertford.
The seconds put their unbeaten run up against that of Division Four leaders Potters Bar and came out on the wrong side of a six-goal share, losing 4-2.
Stevenage were nine without a loss going into the contest while Bar had chalked up 15 on the bounce after their one and only defeat.
The league leaders got in front within three minutes but Stevenage levelled before half-time through Ryall Swartz.
However, by the time Harry Wheeler had added their second, Bar had scored another three to take control.
Stevenage stay third in the table.
Both the ladies' thirds and fourths were beaten 2-1.
The threes lost at home to Bedford and had to clear frog spawn off the pitch before starting.
They took the lead in the first half through Elfie Gunther but two goals in the midst of a flurry of shorts towards the end of the game handed the victory to Bedford.
The fours were beaten at Broxbourne but unlike their club-mates, their goal was the last of the three.
The hosts had scored twice, either side of the break, but Karen Kotze scored late on to give them some hope.
