The men's second team at Blueharts are closing in on the East League Division Two South West title - but only after a hard fought win at home to Welwyn Garden City.

Blueharts dominated possession in the first period but went into half-time a goal behind.

However, the Hitchin side regrouped and goals after the break from Kyle Watson and James Morris saw them over the line.

They are now six points clear of St Albans having lost just once in their 18 games this season.

The firsts also had a successful Saturday with a 3-1 win at Dereham.

Goals from Ethan Gaunt, Graham Burr and Ben Apperley moves them second in the Premier Division above Letchworth.

The fourths continued their excellent season and moved seven points above the third team in Division Three with a 6-4 win against Vauxhall.

Sean Storey scored twice and Ollie Wright, Scott Cromack, Noah Grylls and Paul Buckland one each.

Goalkeeper Paul Marston was the star for the threes as he kept the score down in a 2-0 loss to St Albans.

The fifths though squandered a 3-1 lead at West Herts, losing 4-3. Ben and Ashley Hammond as well as Joel Davey were on target.

The sevenths lost 4-2 to second-placed Bedford with goals from Bobby Bridges and Terry Salisbury.

In the ladies' section, Liv Byford gave the firsts a 1-0 win over Chelmsford while the fifths drew 1-1 with Berkhamsted, Emily Bill on target and goalkeeper Sam Coughlan-Flood outstanding.

The thirds fought back twice to rescue a 2-2 draw with Stevenage thirds.

Rachel Campbell and Meme Brown got the Blueharts goals with Genna Telfer and Riana Smit the Stevenage scorers.

The only other positive result for Stevenage's ladies was a 3-2 victory for the first team away to Broxbourne.

Lucy Harvey, Nikki Greaves and Leanne McCallum scored in the Division Two South West fixture.

The seconds lost 2-1 at home to Shefford & Sandy, Chloe Jones with the consolation, while the fourths were beaten 3-0 at home to Bedford in a misty contest.

Stevenage's player of the match was Laura O'Donnell.

Pauline Page got the only goal as the fifths lost 2-1 at Broxbourne.

The thirds led the way for the men with a 5-1 win over Bedford, the goals coming courtesy of Harry O’Donnell (two), Simon Russell (two) and Tom Woolley.

The firsts lost 5-3 to Luton Town though and an Alastair Aubusson goal wasn't enough as MBDA beat the fourths 2-1.
