Papa Johns has announced the closure of 43 "underperforming" restaurants across the UK, but our Hertfordshire stores have survived.

The sites will close by mid-May following a consultation period, but the pizza giant has not confirmed how many jobs will be lost.

Herts stores in Stevenage, Hitchin, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Potters Bar, St Albans and Harpenden have survived, but the Watford site is among those to close.

Papa Johns confirmed that the 43 stores earmarked for closure were "underperforming locations that are no longer financially viable".

Chris Phylactou, managing director at Papa Johns UK, added: "Our priority is our team members, who will be fully supported throughout this process.

"Our goal is to work with impacted team members and attempt to find redeployment opportunities where available.

"We understand the impact this will have on our team members and are committed to supporting them during this time."
