Letchworth’s Broadway Theatre is to kick off its new season of family entertainment tomorrow with a musical based on a Lewis Carroll poem.
The team at the theatre at the end of Eastcheap will put a modern adaptation of The Hunting of the Snark – based on the classic poem of the same name – with performances at 2pm and 4.30pm.
The show follows the adventures of a group of friends who set out to find a mythical Snark, and the cast and crew are in town following a London run and performances as far away as Japan.
Featuring life-like puppets, imaginative characters and lots of humour to enjoy, the show is billed as suitable for children aged four and up.
Broadway creative programmer Sue Scott Davison said: “The Hunting of the Snark is a production fresh from an excellent run in the West End, and it’s a great way to kick off our season of family performances at the Broadway.”
Producers Rina Gill and Garry Mcquinn added: “As producers, we are so proud and delighted to be taking The Hunting of the Snark to Broadway Theatre as part of its UK tour.
“It feels so good to be sharing this magical classic with the next generation.
“The show retains the spirit of Lewis Carroll’s nonsense poem but with a treatment that is very modern and contemporary and fun.
“Under all the jokes and fabulous original music, there is a touching story about a father reconnecting with his son.”
Family season at the theatre will also feature shows for older children, such as Why the Whales Came on October 8 and King Arthur on October 26, both based on stories written by Michael Morpurgo.
There will also be performances of The Ugly Duckling on November 1, and Dear Santa as the season draws to a close in December.
Tickets for The Hunting of the Snark are priced at £14 for adults and £12 for concessions, and are available to purchase either from broadway-letchworth.com or the box office on 01462 681088.
