From bin bags to glad rags: Letchworth hosts recycled fashion exhibition

THE wild, wacky and sometimes practical designs of students will be on show in a recycled fashion exhibition.

The annual event has returned to Letchworth Arts Centre which will display pupils’ inventive attempts to turn bin bags into glad rags in the Main Gallery until next Friday, March 9.

Schools involved include Letchworth GC based Highfield, St Christopher and St Francis’ College, as well as Knights Templar in Baldock and Princess Helena College in Preston.

The Arts Centre’s Foyer and Café galleries feature a new exhibition by artist Mel Mendones, who paints in oil, acrylic and mixed media and also specialises in crafts including textiles, clothing and jewellery.

The Royal Society of Arts Finalist in 2002 has sold unique commissioned pieces of jewellery in the last five years in London and designed the interiors of his home in Cottered, furnishing it with curtains, cushions, seating and duvets that he hand crafted.

The free exhibition opened today (Thursday) and runs until March 30.
