Hitchin’s most laid-back pub (probably) will ratchet things up for what promises to be two of the highlights of the Christmas party season.

The be-suited shaggy mop tops The New Town Centres will be at The Victoria this Saturday rocking out their covers (Buggles et al) and their own infectious surf-punk for what is billed as the Ickleford Road pub’s gig of the year. Hold on to your pint this one gets bouncy.

Hitchin’s rebel rousers The Scallywags are next up on Thursday December 22 with their annual Christmas party. Expect a sing-along grab your mates and belt out Fairytale of New York kind of night.

The roof of a closed pub in Hitchin has burnt down after a fire during the early hours of this morning.

Amanda Cole, from Instone Memorials, Claire Austin, from Austins, June Dodd and Tricia Brown, from E H Crouch, stood with the cross which was donated for June's husband at Weston Road Cemtery in Stevenage

A widow was overcome with emotion when she heard that generous companies had donated a cross and flowers to mark her husband’s grave.
