ROCK group Queen, who were due to headline this summer’s cancelled 2012 Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth Park, have confirmed two alternative UK concerts.

Following the shock cancellation of the three-day Knebworth rock event, Queen with Adam Lambert will swap the main Apollo stage at Sonisphere for two dates at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo.

Brian May and Roger Taylor, along with American Idol singer Lambert, will play the London venue over two nights on July 11 and July 12.

The news was confirmed on official Queen website QueenOnline.com, with priority booking given to those who had held tickets for the group’s Knebworth show.

Tickets will go on sale next week, first to Queen fans and Sonisphere ticket holders and then on general sale.

Originally known as the Hammersmith Odeon, the rock legends settled on the historic venue as others they first approached were unavailable in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The venue was the scene of four sold-out Queen concerts in late November/early December 1975.

Queen guitarist May said: “Somehow this feels right. The Odeon is a big part of our history, and its atmosphere is second to none.

“It’s the perfect place to acknowledge our faithful fans, and will be a fitting return to our roots!”

Drummer Taylor added: “We had made up our minds to play in the UK this year, so play we will.

“We didn’t want to let down all those people expecting to see us live.”

Speaking from the US, singer Lambert said: “I’m so thrilled that Queen found a way to ensure that the fans will get to see this event this summer.

“I can’t wait to be in London to perform with Queen for these incredibly special shows.”

Tickets for Queen with Adam Lambert at HMV Hammersmith Apollo will be available first on a 24-hour pre-sale to Queen Online subscribers, Queen Fan Club members and Sonisphere ticket holders from 9am on Tuesday, April 17.

General sales start Wednesday, April 18 at 9am via www.hmvapollo.com and through ticketmaster.co.uk.

Alternatively, call HMV Tickets on 08432 221 0100 or Ticketmaster on 08448 444 748.

Tickets are priced at £65, £70 and £75, plus £6 booking fee on all prices.

Sonisphere 2012 festival exclusives Incubus, Wolfmother and Marilyn Manson have also arranged alternative London dates for July.
