AMERICAN group Anti-Flag have announced their own UK festival taking place in Hatfield this May.

The Pittsburgh punks will headline the first ANTIfest at the Forum Hertfordshire on Thursday, May 3.

As well as closing the festival, the band have curated the bill, booking bands they love, have played with before and that share a similar musical ethos and attitude, from New Jersey punks The Bouncing Souls to London reggae/dub/ska outfit The Skints.

Also on the bill are Pennsylvanian punks The Menzingers, The Computers and Red City Radio.

The event, which starts at 5pm, will also have volunteers from Amnesty International, PETA and Emmaus providing information and a forum for debate and discussion.

Counting Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello among their fans, Anti-Flag will arrive at the Forum following a series of European dates, starting at the Rockstorm Festival in Lyon, France, on April 14.

ANTIfest won’t be the group’s first visit to the Forum in College Lane though.

The quartet played last year’s Slam Dunk Festival at the University of Hertfordshire site – jumping into the crowd during their set after abandoning the stage.

The political punk rockers are set to release their new album The General Strike on March 19 through Side One Dummy.

Tickets for ANTIfest cost £13.

They are on sale now from the Forum’s website – www.forumhertfordshire.co.uk – and www.anti-flag.com/antifest

The band’s eighth studio album features 12 tracks and is arguably their most aggressive to date.

Recorded in the Pittsburgh studio the four-piece built with money they made from dissolving their RCA deal, The General Strike is equal parts reggae and hardcore, modern folk punk and traditional Clash-influenced dance punk.

Of the band’s new release, RATM guitarist Morello said: “I’ve been a fan of the uncompromising spirit of Anti-Flag for a long time.

“This latest record captures the punk rock anger and heartfelt hope of a world in flux.”

A fortnight after ANTIfest, Anti-Flag will play Bamboozle in New Jersey, America, on the same bill as Foo Fighters and Blink-182.
