Stevenage have signed Southend United youngster Anthony Furlonge on a professional deal.

The teenager, who was reportedly a target for Premier League side Fulham in the past, had been offered a new deal at United as his current deal was set to end this summer but the club withdrew it and Boro have snapped him up.

Equally at home at centre-back and right-back, the defender made his reserve team debut for Southend in April 2010 and has also spent time on work experience at Thurrock.

Furlonge announced on his Twitter page that he had signed for Boro and he trained with Stevenage’s first team this week.
