Pre-season friendly at the Lamex Stadium
Peterborough United 1
A late Lee Tomlin goal denied Stevenage a win in their pre-season match against the Posh.
Greg Tansey had given Boro the lead midway through the second half with a fine strike from distance only for Darius Charles to present Tomlin with the ball on the edge of the Stevenage area with five minutes to go with the front man punishing Boro from 20 yards.
Tomlin it was who had had the first real chance of the match. The Peterborough man neatly controlled a pass into his feet to take Boro’s Anthony Grant out of the equation before rifling a decent shot past Chris Day’s right-hand post from 25 yards.
Tyrone Barnett also went close in the opening half-hour, his leap and header resulting in a fine effort which bounced off the inside of Day’s post.
Boro’s best effort of the opening half came from Marcus Haber. The tall front man had won a fair few headers in the first half, but his first sight of goal saw him send a header on to the crossbar.
Stevenage had won a corner when Filipe Morais, taking on two players, saw his cross deflected out. Luke Freeman took the set piece deep to Mark Roberts whose header across goal found Haber who flicked the ball on to the bar.
Day was called into action for Stevenage at the start of the first half. George Boyd was put into the area by Barnett and shot low at the goalkeeper’s near post only to find Day equal to his effort.
Boro’s attacking threat lacked that little bit of imagination in the opening exchanges of the second half, but they still took the lead on 60 minutes though Tansey.
Morais did the work down the left and squared the ball to his team-mate whose neat effort hit the corner of Olejinik’s goal.
Boro were looking comfortable until with about five minutes to go when Charles made an error in presenting the Posh with the ball in front of the Stevenage penalty area and Tomlin penalised the mistake with a fine finish for 1-1.
