STEVENAGE midfielder Robin Shroot may not play again this term due to the ankle injury he suffered against Hartlepool United on Easter Monday.
The 25-year-old was stretchered from the field after a Jack Baldwin challenge in the first half of the 1-0 win over the Monkey Hangers.
When asked if Shroot is likely to be in contention for Saturday’s League 1 trip to Portsmouth, Boro boss Graham Westley said: “I doubt he is going to be available, he’s probably going to struggle to see much action this season I would think.
“We are certainly not going to rush anybody back at this time of year because to do so, and worsen the situation, would be daft.
“He was terrific for the 20 minutes or so he was on the pitch and it was disappointing for him to go off.”
Shroot’s departure gave fellow midfielder Anthony Grant the chance to impress the new manager.
Westley added: “It is always nice when you can call on a player of Anthony Grant’s quality to come on and replace him and I’m sure Ant will want to make sure he cements his place in the side now he has the shirt on his back.”
