Bowls club record wins against Stevenage and De Havilland
Letchworth Garden City scored two convincing victories, beating Stevenage Town away and De Havilland, Hatfield, at home.
De Havilland were beaten on three of the four rinks by 85-44 while at Stevenage, Letchworth won on each rink winning the match 51-40. Visiting Royston midweek, Letchworth lost 74-56.
Riverain played two SDML matches, beating St Ippolyts 78-76 but losing to Holwell 68-86. A friendly against Welwyn and District resulted in a 97-55 loss.
Hitchin won a three triple match against Datchworth 48-39.
Hitchin opened their league season with a 39-36 defeat at Norton. Hitchin played St Albans and won by 76 shots to 69.
Howard Garden played a friendly against Brookers, winning 79-45.
The winning team in the club’s annual triples competition was made up of Pat Jack, Tony Dumont and Ray Bloomfield.
Datchworth 40 Hitchin Town 48; Datchworth Yellow 30 Harlequins 32; Datchworth Green 31 Jesters 26; Datchworth Blue 36 Ware Maltsters 30; Datchworth Gold 33 Bishop’s Stortford Ospreys 34; Datchworth 97 Welwyn and District 81; Datchworth 82 Three Horseshoes 72.
Aston Bowls Club chairman Tom Phipps led a team to victory against Welwyn GC in the East Herts Fours competition.
Against Riverain, in the County Triples, Aston won 18-9. In the County Fours, Aston beat Baldock 27-7.
Aston ladies lost their Triples League match at Stevenage 33-26.
Aston’s winning run in the SNH Mixed Bowls League came to a grinding halt. They lost 94-55 to Stevenage Town.
Paddy Jones continued his good form in the County Singles competition against Dave Lawson of Rosedale BC, winning 21-20. He is now through to the final 16.
Stotfold Bowls Club had a good win in the County League, beating Meltis BC 87-66 and winning on all four rinks.
In the midweek game against North Herts, Stotfold won 84-65. The ladies lost 49-46 to Biggleswade. In a mixed match against Roebuck, Stotfold won 70-50.
In the Men’s County Singles, Shefford’s Michael Sale beat Kevin Dolan 21-16 but Mike Hammond lost to Mark Curtis 21-13. In the East Beds league, the men’s C team beat Sandy Town.
The club’s men’s A team won 36-31 in the East Beds League against Henlow. The youngest member of the club, Emma Braybrooks, played her first county singles game but lost 21-8.
Against Barton, in a friendly, Shefford lost 106-81. The ladies won 37-29 at Sandy Town. On Sunday, Shefford won 93-85 at Holwell in a four rink mixed game.
In the Stevenage Mixed League Holwell beat Stevenage 70-65 and Riverain 86-68, but they lost a friendly against Shefford 93-87.
Norton had a winning week. In a league fixture against Three Horseshoes, Norton won 75-73. Against Luton West End, Norton won 102-44.
Baldock B won in the first round of the Knockout Cup. On Saturday Baldock beat Garston 117-49. Against Potton, Baldock won 100-92.
In a County Fours match, Aston Bowls Club’s four, made up of skip Tom Phipps, Paddy Jones, Mick Allington and Drew Noble, lost to a team from Whitethorn 21-11.
