Sunday saw three Freedom Tri duathletes competing in the World Duathlon Championships qualifier just outside Cambridge in Bottisham.

With the incentive of a big race in Nancy for the successful athletes this race produced a quality field for the 7.5km run, 40km cycle then 7.5km race.

Geoff Russell, in the 60-64 age group, qualified again for the World Championships by finishing third in his age group in 2.29.05.

Russell will be competing in this event for Great Britain for the third year in a row and will be joining Tash Pitman from Freedom Tri at the World Championships in September.

Simon Jackson was the first Freedom finisher in 22nd place overall in 2.06.45, which was a quicker time and better placed than in the same race in 2011. Tim Gilbert finished 12th in an age group finish in his first season of duathlon racing. His time was 2.21.08.
