Letchworth suffered a heavy defeat at Chingford as London One North resumed after the Christmas break.

There was disappointment for Stevenage-born Alice Middleton and former Dame Alice Owen’s schoolgirl Jacqueline Bramley as their Cambridge side narrowly lost to Oxford in the 30th Varsity Women’s Rugby match at Twickenham.

Letchworth’s bonus point win over Sudbury was marred by an injury to influential outside centre and kicker Fran Denny in the last minutes of the game.

Datchworth travelled to North London on Saturday looking to make amends for their last gasp defeat to Hemel Hempstead, though it wasn’t too be as hosts Finchley ran in an impressive six tries to win 40-12.

Letchworth’s injury problems increased as they went down 54-12 at North Walsham in London One North.

Letchworth returned to winning ways at Legends Lane on Saturday with victory over Saffron Walden in an entertaining game which moved the hosts out of the drop zone and boosted confidence for the weeks ahead.

Hitchin Rugby Club travelled to Kilburn Cosmos on the back of two wins but came up against a team whose own recent results indicated a return to form after a poor start to the season.

Hitchin booked their place in the next round of the London & SE Division Cup with a home win over West Norfolk.

Hitchin moved comfortably into mid-table with a 66-5 win over Staines in London Three North West.

Hitchin made it three wins out of four with a 23-14 victory in London Three North West at Cheshunt on Saturday.
