Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere may miss the start of next season, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has said.

The Hitchin-born midfielder has not played a competitive game for Arsenal since May 2011 and has already been ruled out of Euro 2012.

Stuart Pearce has said he is keen to include Wilshere in his Team GB Olympics squad this summer, but Wenger has admitted that the England star may not now be ready for the start of the 2012-13 season.

Speaking to the BBC Wenger said: “I do not want to set the Olympics as a target because I do not know whether Jack will be fit to start at the beginning of the season.”
