Letchworth Hockey Club’s fifth team beat Stevenage 5-1 on Saturday.

Goals from Ashley Brown who grabbed a brace, Ben Silverston, Chris Waynforth and Richard Pearce meant eight games into the season the club are more than holding their own in the league with the weekend’s result further cementing its position.

A strong defence and midfield kept almost all the play in the Stevenage half after an early Letchworth goal set the pace and with the score a commanding 3-0 at half-time it would have been easy for them to slow done.

But a hungry Letchworth side kept up the pressure as the Stevenage goalkeeper the busiest player on the pitch at times as he batted away the fastest of the shots. But his valiant actions weren’t enough to prevent some excellent play, solid passing and strong finishes from Letchworth to lead them to victory as they added another two goals with Stevenage grabbing a consolation.

The goal of the match came from Ben Silveston who scored with a deft touch.
