It’s national Non-League Day across the country on Saturday – and your team needs you!

With the Premier League big boys having a rare weekend off due to World Cup qualifying fixtures football lovers have a great chance to experience the delights of their nearest club.

CometSport have experience of covering huge football matches – whether it be FA Cup finals and England at Wembley, Champions League games at the Barcelona’s imposing Nou Camp, moneybags PSG and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich to name but a few – but there really is nothing better than sampling the friendly atmosphere at places such at Hitchin Town’s Top Field.

With the high cost of Premier League tickets – meaning a family of four would spend less money flying to Spain for a city break than attending Arsenal or Chelsea these days – don’t let your kids think football is simply a TV programme.

Why not watch a live game of football and, in Hitchin’s case, pay what you want on Saturday when the Canaries take on Stratford Town at the wonderful Top Field.

CometSport is backing Non-League Day and we at Comet Towers heartily encourage you to attend one of the matches being played.

It doesn’t have to be Hitchin there are games being played at Biggleswade United – who take on Crawley Green at Second Meadow – and Biggleswade FC who play Berkhamsted at The Carlsberg Stadium.

Letchworth Garden City Eagles are also playing at home, against Standon & Puckeridge, with Stotfold also at home, versus Welywn Garden City.

This ever-growing initiative provides a platform to promote the importance of non-league football after the laudable project started in 2010.

It has grown year-on-year offering an authentic experience of football outside the 92 league clubs – not to mention ‘groundhoppers’ who may not have visited a particular ground,

Long-serving secretary and club stalwart Roy Izzard told CometSport: “Non-League day gives football fans across our area the country the chance to show support for their local non-league club who are encouraged to attract new supporters by using innovative ideas.

“We at Hitchin have decided to fully embrace Non-League Day and want to attract as many new supporters to Top Field as possible.

“There are no Premier League or Championship games on this day while Luton and Stevenage are away to Accrington Stanley and Crewe respectively so we will try and attract some of their regular supporters to come to a non-league game.

“We are delighted to say that both Luton and Stevenage have agreed to publicise our game on Non-League Day and encourage their supporters who are not travelling to Accrington or Crewe to come to Top Field.”

Stevenage boss Darren Sarll told CometSport: We have good relationships with all the club’s in our area including Hitchin Town. Obviously we’d love all our fans to go and support us at Crewe on Saturday but if they can’t then why not take in a non-league game. It’s a great initiative.”
