Hitchin Town’s quest to put the play-off heartbreak of the past two years behind them will start with one of the longest away trips of the season following the release of the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division fixtures.

The Canaries have been sent to Merthyr Town for the opening day of the new campaign on August 12.

That is a round-trip journey of almost 400 miles.

Their first home game comes two days later when they host St Neots Town.

The first Saturday home fixture comes at the end of that week when Banbury United are the visitors to Top Field.

They are followed by two derby fixtures over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Hitchin go to Biggleswade Town on Saturday, August 26 while newly-promoted Royston Town visit on the Monday.

The Crows will be the hosts on Boxing Day while Kings Langley will head to Hitchin on New Years Day.

The Easter weekend has a trip to Tiverton Town on Easter Saturday with the Kings Langley return on Easter Monday.

Non-League Day this year is on October 7 and Hitchin will be at home to Stratford Town.

The final home game comes on April 21 with Bishop’s Stortford the visitors before the end of the campaign comes as it began, with a long away trip, this time to Weymouth.
