Hitchin Town FC have announced the signing of former player and ‘talisman’ Jonny McNamara.

The Canaries re-signed the influential midfielder after his contract was cancelled at Hemel Hempstead.

Speaking to CometSport manager Mark Burke was enthused about the 24-year-old who played 112 matches, scoring 31 goals during his previous spell at Top Field between 2014-15 and 2016-17.

Boss Burke said: “I’m delighted to have re-signed Jonny. His arrival has given everyone a boost.

“It’s given everyone a lift and we see him as a talisman who will hopefully help to kick-start out season, starting today at Tiverton.

“Unfortunately it didn’t quite work out at Hemel but we’re really pleased to have him back.

“He’s a big character and everyone is delighted to have got him.

“I see him as an attacking, goalscoring midfielder who can also play wide right when required - he’s a great addition to the squad.”
