Hitchin Town prepared for Saturday’s Evo-Stik Southern Premier derby clash against Biggleswade Town by defeating their cross-town rivals Biggleswade United in the Top Field Trophy.

Goals from Elliot Bailey, Brett Donnelly and a Josh Bickerstaff brace secured a 4-2 win for the Canaries, after manager Mark Burke named a strong team.

They took an early lead when Bailey rounded off a well-worked move after just three minutes.

And a quickfire double from Bickerstaff and Donnelly made it 3-0 with less than 20 minutes gone, before the former scored his second just before the break to give the Canaries a 4-0 lead.

A youthful Biggleswade side hit back with two goals in the second half, but Hitchin held on for victory.

The Canaries return to Bedfordshire this weekend when they face Biggleswade Town at the Carlsberg Stadium looking to pick up their first win of the season.
