Save the date for Non League Day at Hitchin Town on Saturday, October 7

Save the date! On Saturday, October 7 Hitchin Town will play Stratford Town at Top Field – Non-League Day.

This ever-growing initiative, scheduled to coincide with an international break, provides a platform to promote the importance of non-league football.

The laudable project which started in 2010 and has grown year-on-year ever since is intended to attract as many fans of Premier League clubs through the turnstiles to sample an authentic experience of football outside the 92 league clubs – not to mention ‘groundhoppers’ who may not have visited the evocative ground yet,

It also highlights affordable volunteer led community football – such as Canaries of Top Field.

Long-serving secretary and club stalwart Roy Izzard told CometSport: “Non-League day gives football fans across our area the country the chance to show support for their local non-league club who are encouraged to attract new supporters by using innovative ideas.

“We at Hitchin have decided to fully embrace Non-League Day and want to attract as many new supporters to Top Field as possible.

“There are no Premier League or Championship games on this day while Luton and Stevenage are away to Accrington Stanley and Crewe respectively so we will try and attract some of their regular supporters to come to a non-league game.

“We are delighted to say that both Luton and Stevenage have agreed to publicise our game on Non-League Day and encourage their supporters who are not travelling to Accrington or Crewe to come to Top Field.”

To make it more attractive and affordable the game will be ‘Pay What You Want’ which continues to be a very popular part of the club’s pricing structure. The match in October is also free for U-16’s which is a great incentive for families to attend.

The club will also be giving away free water bottles to the first 200 youngsters as a further incentive.
