Setterfield and Tryssesoone set personal best times at 10km race

On New Year’s Eve six Spartans were near Ely for the fast 10K race which is held in Little Downham every year.

Trevor Setterfield beat his personal best (PB) by 39 seconds when he finished 140th in 43 minutes 43 seconds. Ann Tryssesoone also set a PB when she was 334th in 51:32.

Craig Halsey was the fastest Spartan on the day, 19th out of the 579 finishers in 35:46. The other club finishers were Roger Biggs (251st in 47:47), Paul Holgate (324th in 50:57) and Sharon Crowley (382nd in 53:26).

Spartan John Harris raced round the Waterside Five Mile road race at Buckden in 32:45 on New Year’s Eve. He was 36th out of the 240 runners.

In the Serpentine Last Friday of the Year 5K at Hyde Park on December 30 Steve Mayfield improved his PB by one second to 20:30 and was 58th out of the 157 finishers.

Stephanie Mayfield improved her PB by 35 seconds to 24:20 (123rd) and Jim Brown squeezed his season’s best down by 32 seconds to 22:41 (98th).

By finishing the New Year’s Day 10K at Hyde Park before 12 noon Jim Brown briefly took the lead in the Spartans 2012 club championships. Brown finished 46:09, more than two minutes quicker than in the same race last year. He was 139th out of the 463 finishers compared with 214th last year.
