An Alex Reid goal early in the second half was cancelled out by an Ollie Palmer equaliser, before two late strikes from the evergreen Alex Revell sealed the triumph for Boro, sending the travelling support – that numbered 140 – into raptures.

The win means Boro have four points from six as they prepare for their trip to Carrow Road to take on Championship side Norwich City in the Carabao Cup first round on Tuesday.

Maamria, speaking after the match at the Broadfield Stadium was pleased with the result and performance from his men.

He said: “At 1-1 it could have gone either way. But we wanted to win the match.

“It was a good game. A draw would have been good but I wanted to win the game.

“We managed to score a great goal [Revell’s first on 88 minutes] and then we got another one as well.

“I thought our fans behind the goal were fantastic as well and it was important not to let those fans down.

“Everyone has got a role to play. It’s going to be a long season but I’m very happy. I love Alex Revell. Everyone loves Alex. The fans do too.”
