Stevenage boss Darren Sarll rued a “lack of concentration” as Boro fell to a late 1-0 loss at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

The Alex’s 22-year-old Everton loanee Conor Grant played the ball in for former £500k Aston Villa forward Jordan Bowery – who swept the ball past Joe Fryer.

The heartbreaking 94th minute goal ended Stevenage’s three-game win streak in Sky Bet League Two.

To cap a miserable day for Sarll’s side, Matty Godden missed a 28th minute penalty after he was clipped by Zoumana Bakayogo.

Speaking after the game, Sarll said: “We’re two seconds from getting that point but couldn’t maintain concentration and we were punished.

“I thought our performance levels were nowhere near the levels we’ve reached lately.

“We had four bookings, we missed a penalty and they missed a couple of chances from 18 yards. It had a point written all over it.”
