Two North Herts Road Runners members represented the club in a 10k race at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Saturday.

John Rayner and John Auld travelled to the East London site where the majority of the 2012 Olympics were staged.

The duo performed exceptionally well with Rayner finishing in fifth position with a new personal best of 35:24 as Auld completed the event, one place behind in sixth in a time of 35.54.

Auld said afterwards: “I was 11th with two kilometeres to go but ended up only eight seconds outside my personal best.

“I was very happy to give the guys in front of me a lesson in finishing strongly.”

Three squirrels travelled to Watford for a half marathon. Niccolo Bassani finished in 1:35:06, Tom Brownlee in 1:58:19 and Vanessa Rolfe in 2:34:12.

The club held their own event at Norton Common, Letchworth with 87 runners taking part.
