Hitchin showed character after a tough month to claim three points against Redditch United in a 1-0 victory at Top Field on Saturday.

A goal from Canaries’ captain fantastic Dan Webb in the 19th minute.

Former Maldon and Tiptree defender Noah Chesmain made his debut for the home side and was instrumental in the only strike of the match, who sent a high cross into the box for Webb who converted the chance from close range.

The lead could have been doubled in the second half but Elliott Bailey cleared the bar from a spot kick nine minutes into the second half.

Substitute Isaac Galiford who replaced Bailey on 63 minutes fired a shot which struck the crossbar while Robbie Burns had a shot well saved by Redditch keeper Lousi Connor.

However as the referee Mr Kaye blew for the final whistle the feeling from fans and players alike was one of relief after a diffciult few weeks including the 8-1 mauling at Needham Market.
