Letchworth GC Eagles have reached the final of the Anagram Records Trophy thanks in no small part to Paul McGennity.

The keeper saved two spot kicks in a penalty shoot-out to win them the game 4-2 after the teams had been level at 1-1 following extra-time when, in the last five minutes of the match, Kadeem Gutzmore’s 115th minute opener was cancelled out when team-mates Jamie Platt and David Locke failed to clear.

In the shoot-out Eagles’ Sam Gittings, Charlie Thake, Ryan Ellis and Platt all scored emphatically and McGennity pulled off two saves to take Eagles into the final against British Airways.

In the HSCL Premier, Knebworth suffered defeat to high-flying Bovingdon.

Charlie Pratt cancelled out Bovingdon’s opener for his 45th club goal but it was to prove a consolation as the visitors netted three more times in the second half.

Raja Tandoori man of the match was Ross Merrilees.
