A man in his 80s who was seriously injured in a crash on an A1(M) slip road at Letchworth Gate has tragically died in hospital – and police have today reappealed for witnesses.

The crash happened just after 4.20pm on Saturday, May 12, on the Junction 9 exit slip road heading southbound.

A green Honda Jazz collided with a white Honda Forza scooter, causing the scooter’s rider – a man in his 80s – to fall from the vehicle, causing him serious leg injuries. The car driver was uninjured.

The scooter rider was taken to hospital for treatment but died on Thursday, June 7. Police said his family were aware and were being supported by specially-trained officers.

PC Carl Callan of the Beds, Cambs and Herts Road Policing Unit said: “This is a really sad case as the victim has now passed away as a result of his injuries. We released an initial appeal for witnesses at the time, but we are still working hard to establish exactly what happened in the lead up to the collision, so we can give the victim’s family the answers they need and deserve.

“The location of the collision was on a busy roundabout junction, and there would undoubtedly have been other motorists around at the time, who may have witnessed what happened or the aftermath.

“Do you have a dash cam fitted to your vehicle? Were you in the area around the time of the crash? If so, we would be very keen to see your footage as you may have captured something of significance without even realising it.”

Anyone with information that could help police should contact PC Callan on or 101, quoting ISR 555 of May 12, or give information online at
