A BMW driver has been fined after attempting to undertake an unmarked police car on the A1(M) at Welwyn.

David Murray admitted driving without reasonable consideration for other road users on the A1(M) at Junction 6 for Welwyn.

On February 16, Murray attempted to undertake an unmarked police car in lane three at the junction.

Upon being held up by another vehicle in lane two, Murray has then pulled into lane one.

In lane one, which was a dedicated slip road, he accelerated past “numerous” vehicles before pulling back into lane two.

Murray, of Tavener Drive, Biggleswade, did not appear at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court when the case was heard on August 30.

He was fined £331.

The 38-year-old must also pay victim services £33 and costs of £85.

Five penalty points were added to his licence.

Magistrates took into account his guilty plea when imposing the sentence.
