Three suspected burglars were arrested on the side of a motorway yesterday after a dawn raid on a Hitchin town centre pharmacy.

Police received reports of a break-in at Boots in Hitchin’s High Street at 4.58am, with three men making off in a car afterwards.

At 5.36am, police stopped a car on the M1 close to Junction 13, near Milton Keynes.

Officers arrested three men, aged 29, 30 and 31, on suspicion of burglary. All three are from Wokingham in Berkshire.

Police recovered what a spokesman called “a large amount” of cosmetics, including lipsticks, with an estimated value of £5,000.
