A jewellery receipt kept for 30 years has won its owner a prize offered to mark the shop’s 50th year in business.

Glenray Jewellers, in Hitchin’s Market Place, offered £300 worth of jewellery to the person who brought in the oldest Glenray receipt, accompanied by the item it relates to.

The winner was Pat Neal – who presented a gold ring she had bought on Christmas Eve 1987 from Glenray boss Jason Cohen’s grandmother.

The firm, founded in 1967, also offered £1,000 worth of jewellery in a prize draw – which was won by Judith Gower.

Mr Cohen presented Mrs Neal and Mrs Gower with their prizes yesterday.

He said: “It has been a real joy to have celebrated our 50th year in business, since my father started the business all those years ago with his parents and late wife, and to mark the occasion with the competition and celebrate with the community.”

Glenray opened in Letchworth in 1967 and Hitchin in 1975. It moved its base to Hitchin last year.
