Thieves have targeted rural areas of North Herts in a spate of break-ins.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday last week thieves got into two shipping containers off Station Road in Ashwell, taking a number of bicycles and two large lawnmowers before making off in an unknown direction.

One of the stolen bicycles was recovered in a nearby hedge and a further four were recovered across the border in Cambridgeshire on Wednesday. The bikes are in the process of being returned to their owner.

This week, between 10.45am and 12.15pm on Monday, offenders broke into a property in Love Lane, also in Ashwell.

They used an unknown implement to smash a glass pane in the French doors before searching the property and making off in an unknown direction. At this time it is not believed anything was taken.

That same day, over in Nuthampsted between the times of 9.30am and 1.15pm, offenders gained access to a property in Bury End via a conservatory at the back. They searched the property before making off in an unknown direction.

And also on Monday, between 8.30am and 3.05pm, thieves gained access to a property near Sandon and stole a mahogany watch box and a gold rope bracelet before again making off in an unknown direction.

Did you see someone acting suspiciously in these areas? Have you been offered any items for sale that match the description of those stolen?
