A 2012 Olympic Torch, its stand and the official running uniform from the Stevenage relay is up for sale on an auction site weeks ahead of the event.
The items on eBay initially had a starting price of £50,000 but that’s since changed to £500 after the owner failed to receive any bids. The current highest bidder is offering £510. The listing says a percentage of the winning bid will go to a cancer charity. The torches can be bought by the 8,000 runners for £215. The auction will end on Saturday.

I think it is a disgrace. They were selected from a group of people who might have really treasured the torch and passed it on through the generations as a family legacy. Just seeing it as an opportunity for a quick buck is pure greed. I suppose it is simply a sign of what Stevenage and most of Britain has become I am sad to say.

Why should all the profit go to charity? The item is the individuals property and so they can gain from it what they like. It's no different to people selling signed football shirts or other sporting memorabilia for personal gain.

I'd have hoped all the profit would have gone to charity, less the cost of the torch. That's what I've seen a runner in Devon doing.
