A 37-year-old man remains in hospital after being stabbed twice at the Oval shops in Stevenage on Monday – and police have today appealed for witnesses.

The victim, who is from the area, was allegedly approached at about 5.50pm by two men who attacked him in the alley next to the Co-op.

He tried to defend himself, and was stabbed twice during the fight – once in his side and once in his chest.

He was taken to the Lister Hospital, where he is still receiving treatment.

The attackers are described as men wearing black hoodies and black trousers, possibly riding bikes.

Det Con Karen Dewar, who is investigating, said: “We have managed to speak to some of the people who were at the scene – however, we know there were many other people in the area who witnessed the offenders and the victim, and who may have even seen the attack.

“We are appealing to those people to get in touch.”

You can contact Det Con Dewar on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference E1/17/6481.

Alternatively report information online at contacthertspolice.uk/Report/Crime, or give information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or crimestoppers-uk.org.
