Waves of families turned out for the annual Stevenage Day celebrations on Sunday, which organisers promised would be “bigger and better than ever”.

This year was the 59th town show at King George V playing fields and included live music from RockFest, Victorian seaside activites, farm animals and free hot air balloon rides.

There was more than enough going on at the annual event to entertain the children, from stalls, rides, bouncy castles and slides.

And to entertain the adults was a vast range of food and a licensed bar.

Councillor Richard Henry, Stevenage Borough Council’s executive member for leisure, said: “It was great to see so many people of all ages having fun together.

“The music and entertainment was superb and there seemed to be more community groups and charities than ever before. I missed out on the go-karts but enjoyed all the games and the beach area.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to the staff, groups and individuals who did so much to make the day a success. I’m really looking forward to our 60th annual Stevenage Day next year.”

Live music from 16 performers provided something for everyone. Those included were 20-year-old country singer Georgia Nevada, indie-pop group Space Goat, singer-songwriter Connor Wells and The Voice contestant Tai.

Stevenage MP Stephen McPartland was there too, and said: “It is always great fun to support Stevenage Day and get involved with the activities. There is so much to do and worthwhile causes to support.”
