Staff have been allowed back into the Comet office this evening, after the suspicious package that led to them – and other businesses – being evacuated was found not to be a bomb.
The package, delivered to the Lloyds office next door to the Comet at Bank House in Primett Road, was received at about 3pm.
Police were called shortly afterwards, resulting in the news team being evacuated on deadline day, along with other staff.
The Comet understands it was addressed to an individual, which is not general procedure, was unexpected and looked like it had come from abroad.
The bomb squad was called and x-rayed the package, which revealed that it actually contained a second-hand drill – so no controlled explosion was needed.
The offices were reopened at about 7pm.
