Police were called after an assault of a woman in Stevenage


A man is in police custody after an armed police search in Stevenage following an alleged assault in a field.

It is alleged that a woman was approached from behind in a field near Balmoral Close, and was kicked to the floor before being kicked again and punched.

Police said the victim is safe and has been taken to hospital.

Armed police searched the area, as the offender was reported to have a knife.

A spokeswoman for the Herts police told the Comet a man had been arrested and remained in police custody.
