THE BBC and various music websites are reporting that the 2012 Sonisphere Festival set for Knebworth Park this summer has been ‘cancelled’.

The fourth edition of the rock festival is due to arrive in the grounds of the Hertfordshire stately home from Friday, July 6 to Sunday, July 8, with Kiss, Queen with Adam Lambert and Faith No More headliners.

However, the internet and Twitter is awash with rumours that the three-day event will not now take place this year, although there has been no official confirmation from organisers.

BBC Newsbeat says the festival “has been cancelled according to the official Queen website”.

The statement on Queenonline.com reportedly said: “It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012.”

However, at the time of writing, the link has been taken down.

The website of music magazine NME has also reported the Sonisphere speculation.

Worried ticket holders have also tweeted the WHT over the cancellation rumours.

Organisers of the festival are yet to officially confirm the reports.
