THE restoration of a historical country house proved to be Prince Charles' cup of tea!

The prince visited Moggerhanger Park and toured the great house designed by the acclaimed architect Sir John Soane, who also designed the Bank of England and the interiors of 10 and 11 Downing Street.

The visit on Monday afternoon lasted more than an hour during which time the Prince was given a tour of the house by the architect who carried out the £6m restoration programme, Peter Inskip, and park director Simon Cooper.

A lover of Soane's work himself, the Prince was impressed by the £6m restoration of the house.

Much of Sir John Soane's work has been destroyed over the years so he was keen to see a house where his work had been brought back to life.

"He enjoyed his visit which lasted about an hour and was very impressed by what he saw," said Mr Cooper.

"There was a short reception for him where he enjoyed a cup of tea and talked to members of staff and those who were involved in the restoration programme.
