Archant

Rubbish piled up by the window of Hitchin’s Starbucks caught fire last night, causing considerable damage to the building.

Hitchin firefighters were mobilised to the scene at the corner of Market Place in the town centre at 12.52am.

They found the fire already out when they got there, and damage had already been done.

The blaze was caused by poorly located rubbish, the crew indicated – adding that firefighters would be giving advice today to both Starbucks and nearby Pizza Express, which also had rubbish piled up outside.

The Comet has contacted Starbucks for comment.
