Have you heard? Hitchin Scouting is growing bigger than ever.

The organisation’s 2017 membership census has revealed how popular scouting is in the town – with membership now standing at more than 1,000!

Currently there are 1,072 members of scouting – 107 higher than in 2016, an increase of 9.5 per cent.

The number of beavers, cubs, scouts, explorers and network scouts has increased to 868 – a 5.9 per cent increase.

Tony Hankin, district commissioner for Hitchin Scouts told the Comet: “I’m delighted that more and more young people are joining scouting in Hitchin.

“I’m also very grateful to all the new volunteers have joined us to help provide the adventure and challenge that scouting offers.

“My thanks go to all the leaders, helpers and other volunteers who provide a fantastic programme of scouting activities for our members.”

Hitchin Scouts are always looking for volunteers to help in various roles across the district from running the scout shop once a month to leading a whole Scout Group.

Volunteers don’t have to give up every week and can volunteer on a flexible basis – it doesn’t have to be a weekly commitment, it could be alternative weeks, or even once a month.

Find out more about the opportunities for getting involved at www.hitchinscouts.org/volunteering or follow them on Twitter @hitchinscouts.
