The Christmas spirit truly descended on Hitchin at the weekend – not just the snow, but also the town’s 21st annual tree festival.
Dozens of jolly Christmas trees filled Holy Saviour Church in Radcliffe Road from Friday night to Sunday.
A representative for the organising team told the Comet: “We had a great weekend. Sunday inevitably saw numbers down a bit because of the snow, but we did get a lot of happy people coming in after sledging.”
Highbury Infant School and Nursery’s Going Gnome for Christmas tree was chosen by the judges as under-11 winner, and won the overall public vote.
The Shoe Tree by the women of Whitwell won the adults category, and Patrice Pascal and Kira Herd won the small groups prize with their Under the Sea tree – voted second overall by the public.
A commendation went to the Kawasaki Kid tree inspired by Hitchin youngster Stanley Patterson, who lives with Kawasaki disease.
