St George’s flags may becoming a regular sight thanks to England’s exploits in the World Cup, but a street in Stevenage Old Town was sporting the red and yellow of Spain on Saturday to mark World Tapas Day.

El Bar de Tapas in Middle Row pulled out all the stops for the annual day of celebration, serving up huge paella dishes, sangria, a live Spanish guitarist and flamenco dancing outside the front of the restaurant which was decked in Spanish flags.

And while it wasn’t as hot as on the continent, the Spanish sunshine did make an appearance during the event – which ran from 1pm to 5pm.

Afterwards, the restaurant posted on Facebook: “Thank you to all who came along and supported World Tapas Day with us. ❤️

“Also thank you to all our amazing, hardworking staff you really are a fantastic team.”
