A HEADTEACHER who has led his school to another good Ofsted report has announced his retirement.

Peter Loach, 60, will retire from the role at The Priory School, Hitchin, this summer.

Mr Loach, who will be succeeded by the acting headteacher at Marriotts School in Stevenage, Geraint Edwards, has been at the school for the past 11 years.

His retirement comes after Ofsted ruled The Priory as “good” at a recent inspection.

Mr Loach said: “It has been a great joy and honour to have served as headteacher of The Priory School. I have been most fortunate to work with an excellent body of teaching and support colleagues, who work unstintingly to ensure every one of our students feels happy, healthy, safe, valued and able to achieve their best. Our recent Ofsted inspection confirmed all that we do so well for our young people.”

He added: “I am deeply grateful for all the support I have received from the Hitchin community and for having enjoyed 30 years in a profession which I would recommend to anyone.”

Chairman of governors Charles Lacey will be standing down this summer after 12 years.

“Ofsted also praised the dedication of our governors,” said Mr Loach. “I must thank Charles Lacey, on behalf of our school, for having devotedly served as chair of governors for the last 12 years.”

Hitchin resident Mr Edwards will start his role at the school in September.

“I wish him, and everyone associated with The Priory, success, health and happiness for the future,” said Mr Loach.
