A Dickensian market will be returning to a town today (Saturday).

The Dickensian Craft Fayre in Letchworth GC returns for its third year with 16 stalls selling hand-made and affordable crafts – a message being shouted by Letchworth GC town crier Alan Myatt on Monday.

The market in Leys Square, adjacent to the Garden Square Shopping Centre, will be open from 8.30am until 5pm, weather permitting.

To keep shoppers entertained there will be live performances by Alex Jones from midday and the Letchworth GC community choir City Chorus, with members singing traditional Christmas carols and songs from 2pm.

Organiser Stella Swanton said: “I started the craft fayres in Letchworth back in 2011 and it is amazing to see how they have progressed. I am excited about this year’s line up which includes beautiful hand-made jewellery, cushions and upholstery for the home and fused glass art pieces. Our traders will be dressed in Dickensian costumes to bring a traditional yet Christmassy feel to the fayre.”

For those wishing to visit Father Christmas, the grotto at the Garden Square Shopping Centre will be open between 10am and 4pm.

Centre manager Paul Haynes said: “We look forward to welcoming back the very popular Dickensian Craft Fayre to Leys Square this December. As an integral part of the town we do our best to support small businesses and December 7 just so happens to be Small Business Saturday, so we hope the public enjoy supporting local small businesses too.”
