A small herd of cows have been corralled by police at Hitchin railway station after they got loose and wandered around the town.
Police told the Comet they were called at 11.26am to reports of cows in Walsworth Road, with another caller saying there were cows in Hitchin Hill.
A Herts police spokeswoman said: “A further call said there were at least five cows in Walsworth Road, going towards the roundabout.”
The cows then appeared at Hitchin railway station, where they were photographed by social media user Liz Weston – whose post in the ‘We are from Hitchin’ Facebook group prompted much interest and amusement.
Mark Russell quipped: “Don’t they know the trains are cancelled?”, to which Katie Rawlins added: “Rail replacement service?”
Police said the farmer was aware and was now at the scene with officers, who have contained the cows within one of the industrial units.
