Royalists got into the Jubilee spirit early with a celebration of the Queen’s links to the area.
Hundreds of visitors joined the 1950s themed event at North Herts College Stevenage campus on Saturday which focussed on Her Majesty’s strong links with the town.
The exhibition of memorabilia documenting the Queen’s visits, as well as vintage crafts, food and family fun was put on by Access to Higher Education students at the college.
Event organiser Katie Thomsett said it had been a fantastic success. “History came to life as attendees were invited to get their ration books stamped, getting a taster of 1950’s food as well as playing 1950’s inspired children’s games and crafts.”
Over 100 people entered a competition to design an anniversary card for the Queen and money was raised for Stevenage Museum to preserve its royal collection.
The exhibition, which includes material donated by town residents, will be on show at Stevenage Museum until June.
Memories recorded for the event were passed on to the BBC for a documentary to be aired in June.
