Smoky Boys bring delivery burgers and more to the table in Stevenage
There’s no business like burger business – just ask Smoky Boys, whose drivers have now been blazing trails across Stevenage for two months.
Smoky Boys BBQ and Grill Haus, based in Wedgewood Way, bring the taste straight to you – with burgers, halloumi skewers, falafel and plenty more besides.
Smoky Boys co-founder Hiron Miah said the beef, shrimp and Moroccan lamb had been flying out of the door since they opened their Stevenage delivery kitchen at the start of April.
“It has been a tremendous success so far, despite being very new,” he said.
“Feedback has been absolutely fantastic, with repeat orders coming through. The grilled chicken wings and our burgers are proving to be the most popular items people are ordering with us.
“Our success proves what we’d always thought – that there was a gap in the market for a premium gourmet burger and barbecue-style delivery business.”
The Smoky Boys story started about seven years ago when Hiron and his fellow co-founder Sharif Rahman owned an Indian restaurant in the Fulham Broadway area of west London.
They turned a kiosk next door into a bolt-on burger outlet, and over time attracted customers from the Asian and Arab communities who wanted halal meat burgers.
“That gave us the idea of Smoky Boys, which we wanted to be the first premium halal burger and barbecue casual dining restaurant of its kind, as no-one else was doing that,” he said.
“We put in a lot of research and managed to get a well-known traditional English butchers in London to especially source premium halal meat for us.
“When we launched the first Smoky Boys in Watford in 2016, the response from the halal Asian sector was phenomenal. We were quite taken aback. Now, as we’ve built up quite a good reputation, our customer base extends beyond just the halal.”
Smoky Boys also now have sites in Amersham and Hounslow, and are set to open another near Wembley Stadium in October.
After their success so far in Stevenage, they are on the lookout for new delivery drivers, and planning to open a standalone Smoky Boys restaurant here.
“Sites aren’t easy to come by in this town, but we know that there is certainly a customer base for our type of business,” said Hiron.
